Young Buck24x36 Acrylic on Stretched Canvas with Black Gallery Wrap Border |
||||
When deer hunting, usually the doe is the first to arrive at a location, followed distantly by the
buck, who hangs in the shadows before making an appearance. Most of the time, the young bucks make their appearance before
the bigger, older, more dominant bucks. The buck in this painting is relatively young, despite the fine looking antlers. Good
hunters can “age” a deer by studying the characteristics and features of the deer, such as body mass, angle of and
size of the neck. By instinct, this deer hangs close to the tree line and close to the shadows. After watching many does
walk thru an area being scouted by the artist so that he could bring his oldest daughter, Emily Schwab on her first deer hunt,
a buck finally appeared for a shot on land owned by the Saia family south of Houma, Louisiana. |
