Red on Orange

16x36 Acrylic on Stretched Canvas with Orange Gallery Wrap Border

Fish can see color. Thus even in the animal world, color necessarily evokes a response of some sort. This phenomenon is well documented with a quick run to the local sporting goods store where there are more varied colored lures than one can possibly count. Fish with one fisherman and he will show you how merely changing the color of the exact same bait you are using (without success) will entice more bites. Some experts even say that some fish are not even biting for the food - rather they oftentimes bite at certain colors just to kill for various reasons. What gives? This piece was created as a companion to all the other “Red on’s…” The inspiration for the various colorful redfish with different colored backgrounds comes from the love of wildlife and the interplay of certain colors. The first “Red on…” was actually a much larger “Red on Blue” and just happened when it was discovered that there was a freedom in using random colors while representing a form. What didn’t necessarily occur at the time was that even contrasting color combinations from two or more paintings had some unforeseen harmony when placed together. While accidental, it has sure proved striking and beautiful.
